RECAP: Jazz/Takes Supergroup European Fall Tour 2022

This Fall 2022, Niels Lan Doky toured Europe with the JAZZ/TAKES SUPERGROUP. Four legendary musicians embarked on a musical journey based on one of the Niels Lan Doky International Jazz Collective’s most successful concepts, the Jazz/Takes concert series. The group just returned from a highly successful European tour from October 27th to November 12th. They covered Sweden, Finland Italy, Hungary, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Croatia, and Spain. The supergroup features an international stellar cast of musicians that includes some of the greatest musical legends of our time: Harvey Mason Bill Evans, Darryl Jones and of course the knighted Danish jazz pianist Niels Lan Doky.

While the creative task of Jazz/Takes is complex, the concept is simple: Interpreting the canons of well-established genres of contemporary music - through the lens of jazz. The JAZZ/TAKES SUPERGROUP plays a mixture of their own original compositions and jazz interpretations of flagship songs from genres such as 90s Grunge (Soundgarden & Nirvana) and 70s NY Post Punk (Neil Young & Patti Smith), and other artists such as Seal and Sting. The series normally resides at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark and has featured some of the greatest legends in jazz. Now, for the first time, the JAZZ/TAKES SUPERGROUP will bring this enticing project to other parts of Europe.
